The sixteenth annual South End Open Studios will be on Saturday & Sunday, September 21st and 22nd, 2002. This year over 200 artists welcome you to their studios in Boston’s Historic South End.
A visit to South End Open Studios is a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the wealth of art being created in this, one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods.
Visitors walk easily from building to building (or those who prefer can take the free shuttle buses provided by SOWA.) Each stop along the route will introduce you to artists working in an amazing range of media – oils and watercolors; photography and sculpture; mixed media and fiber arts; ceramics and jewelry:wood, glass and metal as well as other visual and performance arts.
Visiting artists in this setting is your chance to meet the artists firsthand as well as to explore types of work that are both familiar and new to you. You also have the chance to purchase work directly from the artists or make appointments to visit individual artists for a more in-depth look at their work.
The South End, always one of the area’s most vibrant districts, is truly alive during Open Studios weekend with the opening of lofts, brownstones and renovated warehouses that house artists’ studios as well as the great galleries, restaurants and shops that are open year-round in the neighborhood.
