Section NE salvaged a point with a dramatic injury-time goal.
Alex Young nudged Section NB – resplendent in their new bright yellow home strip – into the lead only three minutes after Kaufman, on the half-way line, spotted the Disney-man making a forward run and slid the ball through to him, 10 yards from goal.
The match rapidly lost much of its fluency but Alex Young’s reactions were still as sharp as ever – as he proved in the 20th minute with a lightning-quick turn to smash home the second goal. With the score 2-1, Section E seized the ball on the edge of the penalty area and hit a free kick that clipped Section B’s defensive wall and skidded into the goal.
Section B handed Section E a way back into the match when a thumped volley deflected off the hand of B’s defense. Penalty kick and goal to Section E. Section B squandered a number of wonderful opportunities to pull themselves level, but in 30th minute they succeeded. Kaufman rose highest to head the ball into the six-yard box for Miller to control his shot – and the ball fired in.
As the game entered the dying minutes, both teams became more frantic. Each throwing players forward in search of the victory. A wonder goal from Section B with minutes remaining had the Section B faithful singing in loud voice. But the dream team win was only to be shattered by a speedy counter-attack mounted by Section E. A quick ball down the left flank, was poked ahead and then lashed into Section B’s goal. Final score 4-4.
The odor circulating around HBS is a sharp reminder to Section B that the sweet smell of success can soon turn sour.
Section NB 12-0 Section NJ: Nimble Minbiole
Section B swept away the memories and frustrations of Monday’s tie with a 12-0 thrashing of Section J.
The HBS new boys left noone in any doubt that they intend to stay in the top flight come the end of the season with an outstanding performance as they repeatedly tore the visitors apart.
Incredibly, before this game the best goals tally Section B had managed this season had been four. But against a hapless Section J side, they made a mockery of that statistic as they finally scored the goals manager Mike Rukstad has felt their play has deserved all season. The rout began in the 3rd minute when Section B scored the first of a 5-goal salvo within the first 20 minutes.
Building on Alex Young’s first-half hat-trick, in the second half Crowther put three goals and made it 8-0; Crowther was playing like an Italian with flicks here and lobs there, which no doubt will have impressed Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri. Goals by Golando Morales, Miller, Meisel and Kaufman settled the score at 12-0.
Nic Minbiole came of age today, playing his first game as keeper with grown-up goal posts. His acrobatic saves would fill any ESPN highlights package.
On the final whistle, each and every member of Section B’s squad had earned the words adorning their new team shirts – “sexy football”.
Section NB 5-0 Section NF: Galindo Boosts B’s Morale
A virtual Section B reserve team proved too strong for Section F as they ran out 5-0 winners at HBS.
Mike Rukstad rotated his vast squad, leaving out Alex Young and Marina Kolesnik from the side who thrashed Section J earlier in the afternoon.
Rukstad selected many of his regular stars of Moorjani, Chapman, Miller, Galindo Morales, Mallett, Kaufman and Margis-Noguera to illustrate the depth of talent his team has.
His ploy worked perfectly and Section B were in control from the first moment to the last. They won the game inside the first 20 minutes and the other 20 minutes were like a Sunday stroll for Section B.
The B’s scored with their first decent attack on 5 minutes with a sublime right foot volley from Galindo Morales. Section B were buzzing now, and by the end of the first-half they were 3 goals up.
The second half was no different to the first – it was all Section B now and suddenly Section F looked like a side without ideas. They vainly tried to fight back and fired many shots harmlessly over Nic Minbiole’s crossbar.
When it was too late, Section F briefly stirred and Minbiole saved well from a string of long range shots.
But Section B had the final word and in the 35th minute Miller slipped the ball past Section F’s stopper to record his second goal of the campaign.
Then in stoppage time Galindo Morales fired the ball home from an acute angle to cap a fine afternoon’s work.
The Section B fans loved every minute and they taunted Section J by comparing them to that another team which was on the receiving end of a 5 goal defeat as they chanted: “Are you Germany in disguise?”
