Aldrich Evacuation Drill Shows Minor Issues

In light of the recent terrorist attacks and the general climate of increased security, a practice evacuation of Aldrich was held on Tuesday morning. Over 1,300 students exited the building in approximately 5 minutes, a time that Dave Moffatt, the Chief of Operations, seemed happy about in a follow-up letter to the community.

Moffat also wrote that “With the emotional stimulus of a real emergency…we are confident that the time could have been halved.”
The drill illustrated some problems with the exit signage in Aldrich, and with congestion in the stairwells and at the exits. There was also not a clear place to evacuate to on the Spangler lawn, as students simply assembled almost right outside the doors.
