During a two-day celebration of the 50th anniversary of women being admitted to Harvard Business School’s (HBS) MBA program, Dean Nitin Nohria announced the endowment of the Women’s Student Association Fellowship by the WSA. This is the first time in HBS’ history that a student organization has endowed a fellowship.
The HBS Women’s Student Association Fellowship, which was established in 2008 through the individual donations of graduates and friends of HBS, will be awarded to a second-year student who embodies the characteristics of integrity, leadership, and excellence and has contributed to the development of the women’s community within HBS. Such contributions might include promoting HBS to prospective female students, creating forums for women to be recognized as leaders in business and academia, or developing mentoring programs that connect students with alumnae and faculty. The value of the annual award will be up to $20,000, determined in accordance with the recipient’s financial need.
“This gift is made possible by more than a decade of sound financial management on the part of the WSA’s student leadership,” said outgoing WSA co-president Deborah Singer (MBA 2013). “We are thrilled that the WSA’s gift will ensure the longevity of the fellowship for many years to come.”
Parker Woltz, outgoing WSA co-president, describes the fellowship as “the capstone to the WSA’s observance of the 50th anniversary celebration of women in the full-time MBA program. It represents the club’s commitment to supporting and empowering female students at Harvard Business School on a sustained basis.”
