A Transformational Experience

Zack Zackrison will be chronicling his training and transformation as he prepares for the 2011 Boston Marathon.

Hi Friends, my name is Zack Zackrison.  I’m an EC enjoying my second year and searching frantically for a job.  And yet, somehow last year I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to run the Boston Marathon?  So now, I’m committed and training for the race and telling you all about it for the next 8 weeks until the big day– Patriots Day, April 18th.

Up until now, training is probably too strong a word to describe my efforts.  More truthfully I’m running every spare moment I find… which as you well know here at HBS, means basically never.  Unlike most of you (at least I imagine it is most of you), I am not really a SHAD customer.  I mean, I’d like to be, but in BSSE-speak, it’s just not “a job” I’ve needed “to hire” until now.  At the moment, you are probably as likely to finish the race as I am, and yet, I believe in the promise of HBS and seek a transformation as I approach these daunting 26.2 miles.

Though this isn’t my first marathon (I finished the San Diego Rock-n-Roll marathon in 2005), I have never really had to run in cold weather before.  I’m realizing this is a problem.  Just getting dressed to survive 30 degree weather, snow, ice and biting wind has been enough to keep me indoors until I can see the sun.  As a result I’ve learned that SHAD has a great indoor track where 9 laps make 1 mile.  Though I frequently lose track of my lap count, I must thank those of you who have joined me on the infinite loop for your company.  It is always inspirational to see fresh runners arrive at the track and race on by!  It is a motivational challenge to try to keep up.  And since it is a loop, if at first I don’t succeed, I just keep running, around and around and around until as if by magic — I am in the lead! (If only for a moment before I’m passed… again.)

Have a great day, and see you at the track!
Zack

Next weeks’ Goals:
Run outside and lose the 10 pounds I picked up over J-term.
