In pursuit of their ultimate goal of being featured in every issue of the Harbus this year, the HBS Rugby Team (aka Ruggers) spent their weekend coming up with witty nicknames for each other, talking up their record at Tommy Doyles, and photo shopping pictures of themselves with their shirts off.
Co-Captains Jeff Todd (HLS) and Liam Patrick (OC) spent several hours plying Carter Gaffney (Sport Editor and Co-Rugger) with whiskey so that they could land another front page picture with extensive coverage. Mr. Gaffney laughed off the request and responded, “are you kidding me, I could write 10,000 words on eating our oranges at halftime. No problem.”
When asked why so much press is needed on a sport that nobody understands or cares about, the triumvirate of leadership responded, “Since we wear our jerseys to class, people are always asking about us, so we decided to give the people what they desired: more of us. Oh yeah, we have a perverse fascination with seeing our names in print and the action shots have helped us double the number of Rugger Groupies (1 to 2).”
