A hallmark of HBS rugby is that players of all levels of experience have the opportunity to contribute, even in a competition as serious as the World MBA Championship.
HBS was the only school of the 22 MBA programs participating to leverage the strengths of dual teams. Several new players deserve special recognition, notably former professional hockey goon Xave Majic (NE), tough guy Steve Emerson (NE), Nori “Sweep the Leg” Kodama (NE), All-American Anthony Bowes (HSE), Jasper “Gazpacho” Camacho (NC) and Big Hit Mal Thompson (NF). These ruggers teamed up with wily veterans like Tim Keller (OA), Jamil Khan (OJ), and Luke Herbert (OE) to go on a winning tournament run of their own.
This second squad was not to be taken lightly, and after a challenging opening draw against defending champions AGSM (Sydney, Australia), the team battled their way to a rousing 13-3 victory over the Yale School of Management. Pierre Julien (HU) owned the highlight of the afternoon, powering through a helpless Yale defender, as he passed to a streaking Thomas Lefebvre (NF) for the beautiful score.
On Sunday, the momentum continued, as the group silenced Columbia’s first team, 5-0, on the inspired leadership of Ben Stamets (NJ).
