EC Business Etiquette and Power Networking Event

Two weeks ago, 170 students learned the difference between “dining” and “eating” at the Business Etiquette and Power Networking event. Students learned everything from how to fold the napkin correctly, to the various styles of eating (e.g., Continental vs. American) to the most effective and efficient ways to network a room.

96% of attendees recommended this event to another student and gave reasons such as, “I feel more confident now knowing how to look graceful and poised while dining” and “I am now more aware of social mistakes that I can proactively correct when socializing and mingling with recruiters.”

The next Etiquette and Power Networking Event, sponsored by Bank of America / Merrill Lynch, will be taking place for RCs on Friday, January 21 as the culmination to Interview Prep Days. Capacity will be limited again, so when tickets go on sale in December, please make sure to purchase early.

There was certainly no shortage of offense in this one. With the Section A Pandas’ Jeff Buening tossing 4 TDs and the Section F Wolfpack’s Ezra Hernandez adding another 3, there was a combined 60 points and over 600 yards of total offense in this game. The Pandas jumped out to an early lead starting with a 4-play drive that resulted in a Kevin LaHatte touchdown. With another touchdown to Chis Dempsey on a blown coverage to end the half, Section A looked to be quickly running away with this one up 25-0 at half time.

However, the Wolfpack rode the energy of its fans and displayed the mental toughness that has come to be their trademark. Despite being down 4 TDs and having lost their starting QB and RB (Austin Crum and Rob Fraser) to injuries, Section F would not go quietly. The defense came up with key stops to begin the second half as Omar Restom snagged a sack and Mike Elbogen grabbed an interception. Back up QB Ezra Hernandez then led the Wolfpack on a rally, getting as close as 31-20 with TDs to Mark Lurie, Luke Marklin, and Josh Johnson.

Ultimately though, it would be the Pandas’ defense that would seal the game for them. An interception return for a touchdown by Romish Badani and another touchdown toss from Buening to Dan Gebremedhin would seal the victory in Section A’s 40-20 victory.

Section A’s next game is home against Section J on 29 Sep at 3:30 pm and Section F plays Section G at home next Wednesday at 4:30 pm.

EC Game of the Week-Old D beats Old E in OT, 32-26

A strong breeze set the stage for a battle between former-first-floor Aldrich Hall neighbors, Old D and Old E.ÿ Section E jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first half with an across-the-board solid offense.ÿ Section D struggled early and often, trying to throw into the wind without Pro-Bowl quarterback Richmond McMurray (who was out in LA trying to get one of those much-overrated “job” things).ÿ

After switching sides at halftime, Section D found the wind at their backs and managed to claw back into to the game.ÿ With less than a minute left in the game and trailing 26-20, Section D put together a huge drive.ÿ 4th and 10 with just seconds remaining, quarterback Eric Newman connected with Phil Dreyfuss in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 26.ÿ With no time left on the clock, Section E’s defense came up huge stopping the point-after attempt and forcing the game into overtime.

In the end, the best offense was a good defense.ÿ Section D had the first attempt in the college-football- style, each-team-gets-a-chance-to-score overtime, but couldn’t break through a strong E defense.ÿ On Section E’s turn with the ball, a fourth-and-15 throw to the back-right corner of the end zone was intercepted by D’s Phil Dreyfuss, who ran the full 100+ yards* to the cheers of his teammates and a full two other sections of EC students who were waiting to take the field after this epic ended.

Section D, hoping to keep the winning streak alive, will face off against Old C next week.
*who the hell knows how long these IM fields are, but it was a game-winning, end-zone-to-end-zone pick-six.
