Harbus Foundation Awards $70,000 To Seven Local Nonprofits

On April 28, the Harbus Foundation held its annual grant ceremony – awarding seven $10,000 grants to selected nonprofit organizations. The event was held in the Gallatin Lounge on the campus of the Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.

“The funds will have a really profound impact on the organizations we have chosen, given that this has been an especially challenging fundraising year for most non-profits,” said Heidi Yip (MBA ’09), an outgoing member of the Board of Directors at The Harbus News Corporation, who was also integrally involved with the Foundation’s undertakings.
This year’s recipient organizations were:
-Boston Debate League
-Building Educated Leaders for Life
-Citizen Schools
-More Than Words
-Strong Women, Strong Girls
-The Community Art Center
-X-Cel

ABOUT THE HARBUS FOUNDATION
The Harbus Foundation aims to effect social change in the areas of education, literacy and journalism. It strives to create meaningful local impact through a combination of funding and student outreach. The trustees – Ravi Sarin, McCall Merchant, and Heidi Yip – made the commitment early last year to extend grants to as many social enterprises as the endowment would allow. Forty HBS students contributed efforts over the past year through The Harbus Foundation Board and its seven grant-making and venture philanthropy groups to identify the Boston-area social enterprises that the Foundation would be supporting this year.
