In the second Professor Huw Pill soccer challenge, Section K (pictured above) used a broad-based scoring effort and the stiff defense of their favorite Business Government and the International Economy professor to turn back Section I, 5-4.
David Malinas, whose parents reportedly came to HBS specifically to view the match, made sure they had something to cheer for early. Malinas opened the scoring jut minutes into the match, erasing the one-goal advantage the two sides had agreed to award Section I to offset Pill’s presence in the K backfield.
Section I, looking sharp in matching gray drab T-shirts, rallied to cut the lead to one goal twice, at 3-2 and 4-3, but the Kites managed to answer each threat. Section I scoring came from Jason Fox, who connected twice, and Kapil Bansal. The other Section K goals came from Alfredo Arreba, Francesco Cardinali, Tony Deifell, and Nick Shurgot.
The day’s only serious casualty was Section K star Rejji Hayes’ moustache, which was laid on the line with a pledge that Hayes would score in the contest. Hayes emerged at the post-game party, clean-shaven, after he sacrificed his personal incentive by recording assists over goals early in the contest, and was shut out on a series of miraculous goalie saves as time wound down.
