Question: I heard that in the new Aldrich classrooms, there is an automatic locking mechanism that activates when class is scheduled to begin so that people can’t arrive late, or if they leave to go to the bathroom, they can’t come back. Is this true?
Answer: This is just a rumor. The classroom doors do in fact have automated locks that can be programmed to lock and unlock at specified times, but it is not the intention of the Administration to use this feature to lock the doors during class time. The cause of the rumor seems to be an incident last week in Aldrich 8 where the doors did lock during class, leading students to suspect that HBS was locking doors to discourage disruptions during class. However, HBS Operations assures The Harbus that this was a mistake and a one-time occurrence.
