Social Enterprise Club's Annual Alumni Mentorship Program

This fall the Social Enterprise Club kicked off its second annual mentorship program with a well attended networking event. Doubling in size from last years pilot, the program is a way of linking HBS alumni with current students in symbiotic relationships that will nurture and strengthen over this year and in years to come.

The program developed out of renewed efforts to strengthen alumni involvement in the social enterprise club and provide a support network to link students with future career paths. Tracy Breslin (NH) valued having the opportunity to hear different perspectives from past alumni.

“I spoke with a number of alumni mentors and was struck by the wide variety of paths that led them to careers in social enterprise.” As students develop their career goals, it is extremely helpful to have an HBS mentor as a source of guidance.

Many alumni also stressed the enjoyment of being able to help current students with similar career interests. They mentioned the importance of having strong mentors early in their careers and hoped to provide the catalyst to help the next generation of HBS follow their dreams.

Throughout the second semester, The Harbus will feature profiles of participating alumni written by their student partners. These profiles will include interesting career paths of HBS alumni following there dreams in diverse fields such as social entrepreneurship, venture philanthropy, urban real estate development and non-profit management.

The student/mentor partners will formally meet again at a second social scheduled during the Dialogue on Social Enterprise weekend in February and a final event later in the spring. In the meantime and hopefully throughout their careers, their relationships will develop on an informal and ongoing basis.
