NC Sitting on Top of the World

Section NC secured first place in the RC division this week with a hard fought, physical draw against NE.

Having marched triumphantly into the playoffs last week with a dazzling display of football, scoring 13 goals against NI and putting 6 past NG, today’s battle required a different NC. While last week’s games were filled with extreme skill and stunning wonder goals (Mike Wharfe’s 30- yard top corner wonder strike the pick of a staggeringly high quality bunch), section NE put their arms, legs, and bodies quite literally in the way stifling and containing much of the NC magic.

In the first half NE enjoyed a fair amount of possession, pressurising the NC back line consistently and giving them little time on the ball. However their long ball bombs were eaten up by the Akos ‘Rock’ Kassai himself & Brad ‘Iron Man’ Stoltz who were nothing short of immense all game.

Those times they did break through Jason ‘the cat’ Phillips produced saves that from any other keeper would seem quite unbelievable. However as emotions and tempers started to boil over in the second half, so NC started to exert their dominance on the game. They bombarded the back line of NE, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them (Liz after all needs it for her world famous cupcakes). NE certainly led charmed lives at times and quite how Team C failed to score remains to be seen, blockbusters from Todd ‘forget careers this is for my section’ Rainville & the Maestro himself (Rafa Guida Masoni is quickly rising beyond the need to use his name when on the pitch) missing by millimeters. It was not to be though and Team C couldn’t find that key that would unlock the NE goal and the game finished an enjoyable 0-0.

So at the end of the regular season the NC record reads; Ranking – #1. Played 5, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 0. Goals for 27. Goals against 8.
Can Team C keep this going into the playoffs? We’ll just have to see. We quite like the view from up here, and plan to stay up here as long as possible.

See you in the playoffs
