Play the game of games. The Harvard Rugby Football Club was started by Dean McArthur and is one of the oldest, largest, and most active sports clubs on campus. HBS Rugby membership involves training, matches, tours, tournaments, and social events to accommodate class schedules. The Club welcomes all members whatever their desired commitment level. Players hail from many Harvard graduate schools, and include those who are regular players, experienced players returning after a long break from Rugby – and many who have never seen, yet alone played a Rugby match.
HBS Rugby competes in the New England Rugby Football Union during both the fall and spring seasons. Matches against local clubs and other graduate schools are played weekly, with fitness/training sessions held twice per week and on special occasion. Practices are vigorous and highly suggested. The club competes in a number of tournaments including the annual International Business Schools Rugby Tournament, held at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina every spring. Vibrant matches against leading B-Schools from Australia, Britain, Canada, France and the USA are played in search of the coveted MBA Rugby title.
The HBS “Old Boys” Rugby Club also maintains a very close network, organizing tours for past members from around the world to play together again and continue their HBS Rugby careers after graduation.
As expected, emphasis is placed on the social calendar. This lineup includes post-match gatherings, an HBS Rugby Banquet, and the annual Old Boys Dinner in the fall. All of this – and a full line of HBS Rugby jock wear – maintains the high profile of the club both on and off campus.
HBS Rugby Tours combine the best athletic and social elements of the game. In recent years, the club has organized sponsored tours to Texas, Florida, California, and Washington. International tours have included London, Dublin, and Toronto. Upcoming tour aspirations include France, New Zealand, Canada, the Caribbean and beyond.
Above all, the club creates lasting relationships beyond your section and HBS.
The first Fall 2001 match is at 1:00 PM on Sept 15th, at MIT. As mentioned, practice sessions are Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 5:30 pm. The team usually meets outside Shad Fitness on the HBS campus (next to the tennis courts). For information and welcome, contact Dann Angeloff dangeloff@mba 2002.hbs.edu.
