The MBA Food Fight is an annual food drive competition founded and sponsored by the University of Michigan Business School Global Citizenship Club. This year, students at approximately 20 business schools nationwide collected food and cash for local food banks between November 8th -17th. Donations were coordinated through the national non-profit sponsor Second Harvest and will remain in the communities in which they are collected. Thus, all HBS proceeds will go to the Greater Boston Food Bank. With a network of over 200 food banks around the country, Second Harvest is the largest domestic hunger-relief charity in the USA. Our corporate sponsor, Target, also donates funds for food and prize money that will be distributed to the winning schools for disbursement to the charity of their choice.
THE RESULTS
This is HBS’ second year in the Food Fight, and thanks to everyone’s generosity, we achieved exceptional results! Total cash proceeds raised amount to $8,161, a 106% increase from last year’s $3,969. Food donations have yet to be weighed, but with $1 translating into 7 pounds of food, HBS will contribute well over 57,000 pounds of food to the community this year (compared to last year’s 27,931 pounds) and will surely advance HBS from the 10th position in last year’s rankings (in terms of pounds of food raised).
The Food Fight was organized as an inter-section competition for RCs (A vs. B, C vs. D, E vs. F, G vs. H, and I vs. J). EC’s contribute as a class. Congratulations to RC Sections B, D, F, G, and I for winning their respective competitions. RC Section I’s efforts, spearheaded by volunteer rep Lane Walker, deserve the highest commendation for raising a whopping $2,225, representing 27% of total cash proceeds raised.
