Experience Gilded Age Elegance at the Newport Ball

Summer is almost upon us and, besides having the whole campus to ourselves, the January Cohort can soon enjoy another exclusive event: The Newport Ball!

The Newport Ball has traditionally been the main formal event at HBS. This year we have chosen the Astors’ Beechwood Mansion, a beautiful ocean-front property located in historic Newport, Rhode Island, as the venue for what is sure to be a night to remember.

Built in 1851, Beechwood takes you back in time to the gilded age of Newport when it was the celebrated social center of New York high society. Sweeping verandas and a grand ballroom will be augmented by an open bar and an elegant selection of dining options catered by Blackstone, considered the premiere caterer in Rhode Island. Whether dancing the night away to the hottest music or sipping champagne in the library, couples and singles alike can enjoy a lively and elegant evening with their friends at the largest social event of the HBS summer.
It’s never been easier to enjoy this special event, as many steps have been taken to make attending as carefree as possible. First, online payment through the Harbus quickpay system has been set up for your convenience. Nearly 200 tickets were sold in the first 5 days, so make sure you order your tickets early. The discounted price of $120 per person expires on June 4th when tickets will then cost $130 per person and be on sale until June 18th. Tickets will then be distributed through your section social chairs prior to the event. Please make sure that you present your tickets at the ball, as it will be the only way to gain access. It is also important to bring photo identification if you plan on consuming alcohol, as proof of age will be required for liability purposes.

Second, we have launched a website consolidating information about ticket purchases, transportation, accommodations, and other special events being held this weekend. Please visit us as at www.mba2002.

If you are planning on staying in Newport over the weekend, we recommend making hotel reservations early, as this time of the year can be quite busy in Newport. One helpful resource is
