What are some cool things to do near Central Square?

Central Square has really come up in class in the last few years – there are still elements of the seediness it was long known for, but there are now some real gems. For example, a good place to start is the Central Kitchen (567 Mass Ave, 617-491-5599). The full menu is hit-or-miss, but they have a good selection of wines by the glass, and the cheese plate is updated daily. Your next stop should be the Green Street Grill (280 Green Street, 617-876-1655 www.greenstreetgrill.com) for dinner. The funky atmosphere conceals talent in the kitchen, with good aggressive Caribbean influences. Appetizers include treats like Scallop Ceviche and Cod and Conch Fritters, and main dishes run from Grilled Mahi Mahi with a tropical relish to Oven Roaster Grilled Spare Ribs. If you’re in the mood, they also have a variety of entertainment during the week, ranging from magicians to musicians. Finally, one of my new favorite places is The Good Life (720 Mass Ave, 617-868-8800). This is the 3rd Good Life in Boston, and they serve the same retro cocktails in retro-tacky d‚cor. My favorite is the Side Car – a tasty blend of brandy, triple sec and sour mix. The Good Life also has live music on weekends, although the band is far enough away from the bar that you can still hear yourself think.
That should keep you adequately entertained for at least one night!
