Brand new RCs and returning ECs – welcome to Harvard Business School!
The Student Association (SA) executive team is looking forward to meeting each of you on campus and representing both your voice and our community over the coming academic year.
As you settle in on-campus, our team wanted to reach out and provide a quick overview of who we are and what we do.
The Student Association is a student-run association led by two co-presidents elected by the student body, and an appointed team including executives for community, inclusion, wellness, events, marketing and technology (to name a few). Our responsibilities include:
- Student Advocacy: Listen, represent and advocate on behalf of the student body, HBS partners, and families to enact programs and policies that matter
- Community: Strive to foster, encourage, and shape an inclusive, honest and fun community where our diverse experience and points of view can thrive
- HBS Traditions: Create and sustain time-honored traditions, strengthening the ties between the student body and alumni
- Philanthropy: Support important social, economic and cultural issues that impact all members of our community
- Health & Wellness: Understand the challenges that students may encounter at HBS and provide support and care
- SA Products Office: Introduce and offer HBS products, from section fleeces to graduate frames, that last a lifetime
Our 2016-2017 SA executive team has made a commitment to not just serve our student body, but to make HBS a better, stronger community, a more inclusive environment, and a place where every individual has a voice that matters. Over the coming year, you’ll see programming from the SA that reflects our commitment to foster a more supportive and diverse community at HBS. From the roll-out of a brand new inclusion initiative and unconscious bias training to fun Food Truck Fridays and RC / EC mixers, we plan to make the next year a rewarding and memorable experience for everyone at HBS.
RCs, we hope you will have the opportunity to participate in the SA’s RC Orientation activities and get to know both other RC’s and the EC Ambassador team. This week, we hope that you will also have the opportunity for some quiet, thoughtful moments – HBS can feel like a whirlwind at times, and it is so important to take a bit of time to reflect on what you want to get out of the experience. It’s important to also keep in mind the importance of bringing your authentic self forward at HBS. While you may feel pressure to follow the crowd at times, you’ll feel (and be) at your best when you are simply yourself at HBS. We hope you will also have a chance to review the EC Ambassador bios in this edition of the Harbus and chat with them this term – they have lots of interesting tips and perspectives on the RC year.
ECs, we hope you are able to spend the start of the fall term taking advantage of the opportunity to reconnect with sectionmates, while making new friends in EC classes. We look forward to reuniting during the EC Welcome Back party on Saturday, September 10th at 9pm. Catch up with all of the ECs at The Top of the Hub and enjoy an amazing view of Boston as we kick off our second year at HBS!
We can’t wait to roll out our events and programming for this year and we also want to encourage you to reach out to us anytime with thoughts, feedback or ideas about how we can best serve HBS. You can reach out to anyone on our executive team at any time, or provide feedback via our website (hbssa.org/contact/).
