Matt Simpson (RC) reports on a successful Movember at HBS, and brings you the 10 best mos from NG, who raised $14k.
If you’ve had your eyes open throughout the last month, you probably noticed that HBS was looking a little, well, hairier. HBS organized its biggest Movember campaign to-date. If you’ve been living under a rock, Movember is the month when brave men sacrifice their faces and grow mustaches for the whole month. Why would they do that to themselves? For a great cause of course.
Movember is an annual campaign for men’s health that seeks to bring attention to prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and physical inactivity. The brave Mo Bros and Mo Sistas who support them raise funds that will go to valuable programs to help fight these diseases while raising awareness. This year HBS raised an incredible $22,482 – more than doubling last year’s total and becoming the biggest giving MBA program in the country.
Of course, with every great campaign comes great heroes. This year, Section New G came to play, and by themselves raised $13,688. To celebrate, we’ve secured exclusive interviews with the top 10 ‘staches of Section G.

Best Reaction from Friends / Family & Most Profound Moment in Life Stemming From Your ‘Stache
My uncle donated to my campaign and said he hoped I rid myself of the ’stache soon. Then he told me the following story: My uncle had an uncle who would, upon boarding an airplane (this was in the 50s-60s), inspect the captain’s facial hair. If the captain had a mustache he would refuse to fly on that plane. The story got me thinking; I felt I could come up with many pieces of evidence to disprove my great uncle’s flawed theory. My data points soon piled up: Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., J.P. Morgan, Albert Einstein, and Nikola Tesla all rocked mustaches. Through this interaction I learned that mustaches were once not only mainstream, but that they’ve also had some of the greatest men in history as proud ambassadors. Best Advantage to Rocking a ‘Stache If you voice a command, people are much more likely to follow it. Do You Ever Feel Your Manliness is Too Much Now That You Have A Mustache? Whenever I speak to someone who is under 25 and doesn’t have a ’stache I feel like that person belongs to a different generation. |
