Harbus Mixtape: December 2011 Concert Series

Newsflash: Most bands aren’t super psyched about touring in Boston when it’s cold and when students, for the most part, aren’t around. There are still, however, a couple of acts coming through town in early December that are worth seeing – give yourself a break from exams and papers and check them out!

Wed, Dec. 7 – Oh Land

($18, Brighton Music Hall)

Danish singer-songwriter Nanna Øland Fabricius (stage name Oh Land) combines three things I love: captivating female songstresses, catchy sprightly melodies, and… the uhh… I can’t… the third one. Oops. Regardless, she’s rightfully being vaulted into the leagues of European indie divas like Florence + The Machine, Lykke Li, and Marina & The Diamonds.

Ooh, I just remembered the third thing – vowels with lines through them!

Fri, Dec. 9 – Matt & Kim

($42, House of Blues)

Power-pop/dance-punk duo Matt & Kim explode onto the Boston scene where they’ll be bringing their energetic dance party to the House of Blues. And with fall classes done and a full weekend until exams, what better excuse do you need to procrastinate?

Mon, Dec. 12 – Band of Horses

($42, Paradise Rock Club)

Alternating between mellowness and explosions of sound, South Carolina-based Band of Horses have made a name for themselves with their accessible, alt-country, southern rock. While they’ve had their share of main stage festival performances, the smaller intimate setting at Paradise should fit their musical style perfectly and make for a great show.

The start of winter got you cold? Spotify-ers behold, this playlist is solid gold:
