HBS SA -Weekly

JESSICA RABL
Name: Jessica Rabl
SA title: Co-Chief Development Officer (with Katina)
What’s the role: This is a new role on the SA Executive Team starting this year. My main goal is to build relationships with corporate sponsors so that the SA can have more awesome/more affordable events. I hope to get as much EC/RC input as possible to create a really successful SA Development program. I’ll also work closely with my counter-part Katina to make this all happen.
Brief bio: I’m a proud member of NI (go Incredibles!) and a native Long Islander. Before HBS I worked in investment banking. This summer I’ll be working as a consultant in New York. In my free time I love to travel, try new foods and raise/spend money.
Why did you choose to be part of the SA?
Being a part of the SA is a great way to contribute to the HBS community while also getting to know the other student leaders on campus. I am excited to be a part of the SA initiatives and events that work towards improving the HBS student experience.
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity) I plan to ramp up the SA’s sponsorship efforts by focusing both on corporate partnerships and on student involvement. My hope is to make a significant difference in the affordability of SA events.

KATINA PAPPAS
Name: Katina Pappas
SA title: co-Chief Development Officer (with Jessica)
What’s the role: Our dual role as Chief Development Officers was specifically created by Brett and Justine in order to increase the SA’s attention to sponsorship and fundraising. My role specifically will be to solicit new, innovative sponsors and donations for the SA. The goal is to encourage a diverse set of sponsors, both small and large, to get involved in the HBS community.
Brief bio: A native Texan, I spent the last four years far from home in New York. After two years of investment banking, I happily quit to attend culinary school in New York. Right before HBS, I was working for Chef Daniel Boulud in PR & Marketing. This summer I’ll be in New York working for Lincoln Center.
Why did you choose to be part of the SA? I chose to be a part of the SA because I felt it would be an opportunity to get further involved and influence the HBS community. I have loved the past year here in Boston (and in Section J!) and am looking forward to another great one.
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity) Jessica and I share the same goal of increasing the affordability of SA events in order to get wider student involvement in these spectacular events. Specifically, I hope to create innovative funding opportunities for sponsors that will entice small, yet high volume, repeat donations.

ANGEL SOLIS
Name: Angel Solis
SA title: CFO
What’s the role: I see that our financial resources are used efficiently, effectively and for the sole benefit of the student body.
Brief bio: I was born in Guatemala and immigrated to the United States aspiring to become an IT technician. I actually became a physicist, then an investment banker, and now I’m here. Life is unpredictable like that, but that’s what makes life worth living. That and cold beer.
Why did you choose to be part of the SA? Joining the SA as CFO is a tremendous opportunity for me to help improve one of the things that already makes HBS a great place by doing what I do best. Because I’m not completely selfless, I also joined to gain experience that I’m sure will come in handy later on in life.
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity): I will find ways to use our money more efficiently. Previous administrations have already done plenty of work in this area, so my job won’t be easy. However, if I can save a few pennies here and there to pay for another TGIF, then I will have done my job well.
Anything else you would like to add: I’m very excited about the new team we have in place. I’m even more excited about the things we have been planning for next year. Stay tuned!

ERIK EKEVALL
Name: Erik Ekevall
SA title: Chief Operating Officer (Products)
What’s the role: I make sure that students have access to affordable memories from their time at HBS, with the help of two excellent Product Managers. From our office next to The Grille we pester vendors into giving us the absolutely best deals on fleeces, yearbooks, pictures, business cards and a flurry of other products for the student body. I am also lucky enough to be a member of the SA Executive Team, working to make our two years here as rewarding as possible.
Brief bio: I started my career as cannon fodder in the Norwegian Infantry, including two tours of Kosovo after the war in 1999. I then promptly swore to never be that cold again, so I joined a consulting practice in Australia, and married a beautiful, local woman.
Why did you choose to be part of the SA?
I had been looking for the best way to get involved in the community for a while, and felt that the practical nature of this role perfectly complemented our somewhat theoretical classes. It also didn’t hurt that I thought SA stood for Special Agent. I am yet to receive any sort of weaponry.
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity)
Our main goal is to keep products priced as affordable as possible, as we are all getting used to living without our monthly paychecks. We will also be working hard to carry forward a few of the great initiatives from this year, such as the Hilton Gold cards for all ECs, and hope to land similar deals with other providers.

ASHLEY MARLENGA
Name: Ashley Marlenga
SA title: Chief Operating Officer – Events
What’s the role: I am responsible for overseeing school-wide events, including Holidazzle, Newport Ball, TGIFs, EC Ski Trip and the “Best of EC Year” speaker series. Essentially, my job is to throw really, really big parties.
Brief bio: I am a proud Bostonian (and member of Section I), who couldn’t be happier to be back in Red Sox Nation.ÿI studied English literature as an undergraduate, but quickly realized that it takes a lot more talent than I possess to make a living off of reading and writing, so I pursued a career in finance.ÿI will be splitting my summer between Boston and New York and look forward to hanging out with HBSers in both cities.
Why did you choose to be part of the SA? I chose to be a part of the SA because I wanted to have the opportunity to create memorable experiences for my classmates and to be a part of improving the quality of the HBS experience for our and future classes.ÿ Oh, and also because I wanted to have control over the social lives of 1,800+ people.ÿ Just kidding.ÿ Kind of.ÿ
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity) I am looking forward to revamping existing HBS traditions and to starting a few new ones.ÿNew events to watch out for next year include an EC Welcome Back Boat Cruise, an SA Halloween party and more frequent TGIFs.ÿ The SA is very committed to fostering a more cohesive community at HBS… and to achieve that, we need to engage both RCs and ECs in events that are inclusive, affordable and FUN!
Anything else you would like to add: We have an incredible Executive Committee that really cares about making meaningful changes and has the firepower to do it.ÿI feel really lucky to be working with such an impressive group of people and am looking forward to a fantastic year.

ANUSHRI MAINTHIA
Name: Anushri Mainthiaÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
SA title: CMO – Chief Marketing Officer
What’s the role: Officially, it is to “develop, refine, and implement the communication, marketing, and branding strategy of the SA”.ÿ Simply – it is to make sure you know what’s going on with the SA!
Brief bio: I am a California girl who has been trapped on the east coast/Midwest for much too long!ÿ Luckily I will be back in the sunshine state working for Mattel (aka Barbie) this summer (in hopefully my Malibu dream house anyone have any leads?)
Why did you choose to be part of the SA? I hate sleep.ÿOnly joking – I am a sucker for school involvement and think that the SA is up to some pretty amazing things this coming year.
Your plan for the next year (in your capacity) Think digital and interactive and you’ll get an idea of what I am planning next year – we are all addicted to our iPhones (or BB’s).why not use that!
I also plan on leveraging everything learned in RC Marketing – the 5 C’s, 4 P’s, the customer decision funnel and the price thermometer – (that’s for Brett and Justine if they read this).
Anything else you would like to add:
Get excited for this coming year – the SA team has some amazing things planned!
