Kwama Sutra

Sing it with me:

The ECs were having trouble
What a sad, sad story
Needed some fresh romance
To restore their former glory
Where, oh where was he?
Where could that man be?
The women looked around
And then they found
The man to save the university
And now it’s
Springtime for ECs at HBS.
The Kwama Sutra will help you play

Ah yes, it is springtime at HBS. Rub on your fake tanning lotion, put on those Gucci glasses and get ready for a wild end to the year. Admittedly, I am still a nascent business school student, yet my time at other institutions of higher education suggests that we are getting ready to enter into a period titled: the senior scramble.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term “senior scramble” or who simply did not get much loving at the end of your college career, let me explain. After spring break those students who are graduating start panicking and reminiscing about their time in school. Their emotions are flying all over the place, much like a drunken bird, and typically tend to result in one defining characteristic: a need to make out – better put: a need to make out with a lot of people. This is a natural feeling and should not be resisted.

It’s springtime for ECs at HBS.

Now, where does your favorite dating columnist enter into the equation? If you have been reading any column posts thus far this year, this answer should be more obvious than criticizing the Enron leadership in LCA. As noted above, I am dedicating myself to helping with the ECs’ “emotions” from now until graduation.

My thought is that most of the EC class has engaged in certain types of behavior with other members of the EC class, particularly over the course of the year, and now they are searching for younger, greener pastures.

Not to discriminate within the class, but my guess is that the senior scramble could really resonate with EC women. I get the feeling that the EC men have already been meeting many of the RC women, and well, you know where this is going. First, let me say this, gentleman of the EC class, I applaud your efforts. Subsequently, it is with this admiration that I offer a modest proposal that the RC men take on a similar task and eagerly engage the EC women.

This is stating the obvious, but I think there are some very compelling reasons to engage in the senior scramble.

The first and most important is that there are some fine EC women available. Take, for example, our Editor-in-Chief, who just presided over her last edition of The Harbus. You can call me a VC guy, but don’t you think it’s a wise investment to help her take advantage of her new free time? Just saying.

The great thing is – she’s not alone. Any RC that refutes this claim should just walk on over to Hawes to check things out. Seriously, it’s like a make out treasure chest over there.

Next, the beginning of spring is the perfect time for ECs to engage in meeting new friends. RCs are either employed and have less to worry about or are unemployed and have generally given up on the summer, thus looking for other sources of pleasure, but the ECs have full-time jobs. What’s more – they have their signing bonuses. Might I suggest dinner on BCG’s newest full-time associate?

Those of you who know me well know that the Kwama Sutra loves to share. Therefore, this advice should not solely be used by me.

Just remember:
Don’t be stupid, be a smarty
Come and join the EC party
Oh yes, it’s springtime for ECs at HBS.
