More than 700 members of the Class of 2010 voted for their favorite HBS professors, based on inspiration, knowledge transfer, accessibility, career guidance, and feedback. Votes were compared to the total number of students taught by a given professor, and we are happy to announce that two RC professors and three EC professors will receive this year’s Faculty Awards, which will be presented at the Class Day Ceremony during Graduation Week.
Thomas Piper: Financial Reporting and Control, RC Professor for Section F.
Thomas Piper, Baker Foundation Professor and Lawrence E. Fouraker Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus, is a faculty member in the Finance and Accounting Units. He served as chairman of the MBA Policy Committee and was senior associate dean for 13 years.
Tom Nicholas: The Entrepreneurial Manager, RC Professor for Section J.
Tom Nicholas is an Associate Professor in the Entrepreneurial Management Group. He holds a PhD in Economic History from Oxford University. Prior to joining HBS Tom taught at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and the London School of Economics. He was also an economics consultant with the Brattle Group in San Francisco where he performed economic analysis for environmental and antitrust litigation including Sun Microsystems v. Microsoft.
David Moss: Creating the Modern Financial System, EC Professor
David A. Moss is the John G. McLean Professor at Harvard Business School, where he teaches in the Business, Government, and the International Economy unit. Moss graduated from Cornell University (B.A., 1986) and went on to earn an M.A. in economics (1988) and a Ph.D. in history (1992) from Yale University. In 1992 and 1993, he served as a senior economist at Abt Associates, a public policy consulting firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He joined the Business School faculty in July, 1993.
Clayton Christensen: Building and Sustaining a Successful Enterprise, EC Professor
Clayton M. Christensen is the Robert and Jane Cizik Professor of Business Administration, with a joint appointment in the Technology & Operations Management and General Management faculty groups. His research and teaching interests center on the management issues related to the development and commercialization of technological and business model innovation. Professor Christensen holds a B.A. with highest honors in economics from Brigham Young University (1975), and an M.Phil. in applied econometrics and the economics of less-developed countries from Oxford University (1977), where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. He received an MBA with High Distinction from the Harvard Business School in 1979, graduating as a George F. Baker Scholar. He was awarded his DBA from the Harvard Business School in 1992.
Zeynep Ton: Coordinating and Managing Supply Chains, EC Professor
Zeynep Ton joined the Harvard Business School faculty in 2002. In addition to teaching “Coordinating and Managing Supply Chains”, she also teaches the executive education course titled “Managing the Supply Chain: The General Manager’s Perspective”. In the past, Professor Ton has taught the required first-year course in Technology and Operations Management. Professor Ton’s research focuses on the critical role of store operations in retail supply chains. Her research examines how to design retail store processes and manage store labor to ensure that both in-store logistics and customer-service activities are performed successfully.
