The Harbus caught up with Tamara Heimur (OF), who spent her summer working at the International Affairs Division of the U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C. in the Office of the Middle East and North Africa. Asked to evaluate the experience, she replied, “I loved it! I thought it was a great mix of technical work with a good team and I appreciated being able to work on issues that I thought were important.” Her work included three projects, one dealing with private sector development in Iraq, another preparing for Secretary Geithner’s trip to the Middle East, and a third doing analysis on the North African countries. Tamara enjoyed spending the summer in D.C. and having the chance to bond with now-Old F’ers and meet students from other sections as well as interesting alumni. Asked how the RC had affected her experience, she shared that she had drawn on lessons from her previous experience in international development in the U.S. Government as well as the economic, finance, and leadership concepts she learned at Kennedy and from HBS. Reflecting on lessons she’d like to share with other students, Tamara said, “Working in the public sector is a great opportunity for HBS students, even if they aren’t planning on that for the long term, just learning how the government works and how they can work better with the government.”
