David Rawlinson (OD) has been selected as the student speaker for HBS Class Day 2008 amidst admirable competition. David participated in the intense two-round competition earlier this month, delivering his speech to representatives from each of the EC sections who were selected by their section Presidents to serve as judges. Speakers were judged on their speech content, presentation skills, style and creativity.
David’s journey began in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a small town of approximately 50,000 residents. In addition to his upcoming graduation from Harvard Business School, Mr. Rawlinson also has the distinction of being awarded a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Government from the Citadel. Prior to HBS, David spent 5 years working in the legal field for companies such as the law offices of Locke, Lidell and Sapp and the Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Group both in Dallas, Texas. After his first year at the business school, David spent the summer working with the SCANA Holding Corporation working on projects with the general counselor and CFO.
As a lawyer, David cultivated his public speaking skills in the courtrooms in Dallas. David also credits his housemates and friends for helping him prepare for the competition.
“It’s an absolute honor and thrill to be selected,” David said after winning the student speaker competition. He is looking forward to the opportunity to thank his “amazing classmates” by sharing his reflections on the last couple of years with them.
