The regular season of the 2006 IM basketball season has drawn to a close and teams are gearing up to compete for the title of HBS Champion. The competition at Shad has been fierce as each RC and EC section offered up A and B league teams for eight games. This year’s playoffs will feature separate RC and EC Championships, with the winners playing for the right to be known as the best of HBS.
As of press time, the final field was still being determined as teams vied for the coveted top tournament seeds. Several teams sitting on the bubble have made a late-season charge and hope to will their way to a title run. Look for an updated tournament bracket in next week’s Harbus.
Of course, our discussion of the basketball season would not be complete without a few insights from competitors.
Commenting on the excitement surrounding the playoffs, Travis Merrill (OD) said, “We are excited to have earned the number one seed in the EC bracket but are just taking it one game at a time.” He added, “However, one thing I love about the playoffs is the increased Harbus coverage.”
Commenting on his section’s run for the title, Kevin Kaberna (OG) compared his team to George Mason in the NCAA, “Feifs, Sager and I see ourselves as a Cinderella story, and we are ready to dance.”
Fans of all teams are also getting into the excitement. Joseph Kauffman (OA) was quick to point out, “In my tournament brackets, I’ve got OA going to the EC Championship game. Despite what happens there, I think we’ll see the magic panda playing an important role.” Come by Shad to cheer on your team.
The Schedule:
Games will begin at Shad Monday, April 3, continuing on the 5th and 6th. The EC/RC Championships will be held at Shad on Monday, April 10. The HBS Championship game is Wednesday, April 12.
