HBS Rugby Impresses in Home Opener

In only their second game of the season, the HBS Rugby Team treated the home-town crowd to a clinic in toughness, physicality and ferociousness. Despite only having 4 practices under the belt and being outweighed by an average of 40 pounds by their Portland, Maine opponents, this rugged team was not lacking in heart and determination.

Of special note was interim Hooker, Jasper “Gazapacho” Camacho (OC), subbing in for Josh “The Professor” Bresler (OE). The Gazapacho-man did an incredible job throwing the pill in on line-outs and manning the middle during the games many scrums. Other highlights included Ollie, “The General” Corlette (OC) who single-handedly brought the Harvard RFC back with a spectacular block and try late in the second half
In the second stanza, the HBS Barbarians, many playing rugby for the first time in their lives, showed the heart and determination of a champion. Other teams in the NERFU league are taking notice: HBS had a solid squad, three and four tiers deep. Gone are All-Americas like Mike “Ass-town” Butville and Oli Thomas, but the successful tradition of HBS rugby is alive and kicking.

As the team looks ahead to their annual trip to Montreal and the Wharton “Hogfest” Tournament, this group know that the squad will only continue to improve.
